The National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) held a strategic courtesy meeting today with the Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Mr. Kipchumba Murkomen, to discuss critical issues aimed at elevating Kenyan sports to new heights.
The meeting, led by NOC-K President Paul Tergat, brought together the NOC-K Executive Committee and top officials from the Ministry of Sports to focus on enhancing sports governance, planning for future Olympic Games, and promoting youth development.
One of the primary topics of discussion was the need to strengthen sports governance structures within Kenya.
NOC-K emphasized the importance of transparency, accountability, and efficiency in managing sports organizations to ensure the success and growth of Kenyan athletes on the global stage.
Both parties agreed on implementing measures to improve governance practices across all sports federations.
The upcoming 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar and the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles were at the forefront of discussions.
The NOC-K Executive Committee, including Secretary General Francis Mutuku and Treasurer Eliud Kariuki, laid out a roadmap for strategic planning, including early preparations, talent identification, training camps, and international exposure.
The meeting discussed comprehensive strategies for advancing gender mainstreaming, ensuring equal opportunities for male and female athletes, and promoting women’s leadership within sports organizations.
Collaborative efforts will focus on providing the necessary resources, coaching, and infrastructure to support young athletes’ growth and development.
Both NOC-K and the Ministry expressed their shared vision of positioning Kenya as a leading sporting nation globally.NOC-K President Paul Tergat expressed his optimism about the partnership with the Ministry of Sports.
“We are excited to partner with you, Waziri, as we work toward remarkable achievements in Kenyan sports, both on and off the field,” noted the NOC -K President.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to continuous engagement and collaboration, with both parties acknowledging that the future of Kenyan sports depends on roobust partnerships, strategic planning, and unwavering support for athletes and sports development programs.
