In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, law enforcement officers from Piny Oyie Police Station in Suna West Sub-County have confiscated a staggering 500 kilograms of cannabis.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI), the bust occurred during a routine patrol on the Kopanga-Mubachi road, where officers intercepted a black Voxy, license plate KCF 295M, suspected of transporting illegal substances.
The vehicle’s driver, upon spotting the police, attempted to flee, leading to a high-speed chase through the area.
The pursuit came to an abrupt end when the driver lost control of the vehicle, swerving off the road. He abandoned the car and managed to escape on foot.
“During a routine patrol on the Kopanga-Mubachi road, the vigilant officers spotted a black Voxy, license plate KCF 295M, loaded with illegal goods. Upon noticing the officers, the driver attempted to flee, igniting a high-speed chase. The pursuit ended when the driver lost control, veered off the road, and abandoned the vehicle, escaping on foot,” explained the DCI.
A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed it was packed with 500 kilos of cannabis, now safely held as evidence at Piny Oyie Police Station.
Additionally, a motor vehicle number plate, KBN 642Y, was discovered inside the vehicle, raising further questions about the trafficker’s identity and operations.
“The vehicle, packed to the brim with 500 kilos of cannabis, was taken to Piny Oyie Police Station for safe custody as exhibits. Also recovered inside the vehicle is a motor vehicle number plate, KBN 642Y,” the detectives added.
Efforts are currently underway to apprehend the suspect, who remains at large.
However, authorities are appealing to the public for any information that could lead to his arrest, emphasizing their commitment to cracking down on drug-related crimes in the region.
