In a compelling address at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Kenya called on the global community to embrace a transformative vision of international cooperation that champions equity, inclusivity, and the aspirations of every human being.
The statement, delivered by President William Ruto in New York, emphasized the urgency of reforming global governance systems to ensure that all nations, particularly those in the Global South, are represented and empowered.
Kenya highlighted the need to move beyond outdated paradigms of power and influence that perpetuate inequalities and hinder collective progress.
“The global community must move beyond outdated paradigms of power and influence to create a system of international cooperation that reflects the aspirations and dignity of every human being,” President Ruto noted.
One of the key pillars of Kenya’s statement was the call for comprehensive reforms to the international financial architecture.
Kenya urged for an overhaul in climate financing mechanisms, emphasizing the disproportionate impact of climate change on African nations and other developing regions.
The country further called for the expansion of the United Nations Security Council to include African representation, reflecting Africa’s growing role on the world stage.
Additionally, Kenya emphasized the need for accelerated action toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), stressing that the world is at a critical juncture in addressing poverty, inequality, and environmental degradation.
“To achieve this, Kenya calls for reforms of the international financial architecture, including climate financing, expansion of the United Nations Security Council to include Africa and fast-tracking the actualisation of Sustainable Development Goals,” the head of state reiterated.
Kenya’s call to action resonated deeply with the international community, particularly as the world faces multiple intersecting crises, from climate change to economic disparity.
Additionally, Kenya urged the UN member states to work together in creating a fair, more inclusive international system that serves the interests of all humanity.
“We must embrace a new vision of global solidarity, one that upholds the principles of equity and inclusivity,” added President Ruto.
Kenya’s National Statement at UNGA serves as a clarion call for the global community to unite in a spirit of true solidarity and cooperation, paving the way for a brighter, more equitable future.
As a leading voice in Africa, Kenya remains at the forefront of advocating for a more just and inclusive world, calling upon developed nations to honor their commitments to climate financing and support efforts that drive sustainable economic growth in developing countries.
