Suspect In Brutal Murder Of Young Wife Arrested After Months On Escape

After evading law enforcement for several months, Anthony Mwenda, the primary suspect in the brutal murder of his 24-year-old wife, Millicent Mwendwa, has been arrested.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mwenda was apprehended during a coordinated sting at Wempa location, bringing an end to a manhunt that began after the tragic incident in Chuka, Meru South, on July 11, 2024.

“After months of evading police dragnet, murder suspect Anthony Mwenda, who gruesomely murdered his 24-year-old wife (Millicent Mwendwa) at Mugirirwa area of Chuka in Meru South, has been arrested. Mwenda was arrested in a sting operation at Wempa location within Murang’a South,” stated the DCI.

The grisly murder, reported by the area chief in Mugwe location, the suspect turned against his wife following a heated family dispute that allegedly led Mwenda to attack his wife of two years with a panga.

“In the unfortunate homicide reported by the chief – Mugwe location on July 11, 2024, the suspect turned against his wife of two years following a family dispute, inflicting fatal cuts on her head and legs,” added the DCI.

Police were alerted to the incident but arrived to find Millicent’s lifeless body, while Mwenda had fled, initiating an extensive manhunt.

However, a joint team of Homicide and Crime Research detectives, leveraging forensic intelligence, tracked Mwenda to his hideout.

Mwenda is currently in police custody and is set to be arraigned in court tomorrow 13th November 2024.
