The government of Kenya has commended Kenya Ports Authority for its dedicated efforts to unlock the potential of the multibillion-shilling Dongo Kundu Special Economic Zone (SEZ) project.
During a government delegation’s visit to inspect BETA projects in Mombasa on November 12, 2024, the Deputy Chief of Staff in the office of the President for Performance and Delivery Management, Mr. Eliud Owalo, recognized KPA for its effective management of the compensation process for Project Affected Persons (PAPs).
While touring the Mombasa Port Area Road Development and the Dongo Kundu SEZ projects, Mr. Owalo highlighted the successful implementation of the Resettlement Action Plan for PAPs, reiterating the government’s commitment to accelerating the advancement of these significant development projects.
He emphasized that the government is eager to expedite the development of the Dongo Kundu SEZ, aiming to stimulate industrial activities to boost manufacturing and export business.
Earlier this month Ali Joho, the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy, and Maritime Affairs, also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fostering collaboration among various stakeholders to streamline the efficiency of the Mombasa Port and Northern Transport Corridor.
The Kenya Ports Authority noted that the collaborative framework established by government agencies and the private sector binds the port community to collective obligations, specific actions, targets, and timelines for improving the corridor’s efficiency.
“The aim is to transform the Port of Mombasa and the Northern Corridor into an efficient, reliable and globally competitive trade and transport corridor,” KPA said on X
