One of the country’s most notorious fraudsters implicated in the 2024 KCSE examination malpractices, Collins Kipchumba Kemboi, was arrested in the Kiamunyi region of Nakuru on Wednesday 13th November 2024.
A 23-year-old man, operating in the guise of a female namely Dorothy Jerop Kiprono, has emerged as a significant concern for KNEC officials.
He has successfully garnered a following of more than 78,000 individuals seeking exam leaks on his Telegram account, in addition to over 8,500 members in his WhatsApp groups.
In an all-out war to curb the unbecoming practice of cheating, DCI officers attached to KNEC jointly with their Nakuru County counterparts sharpened their claws on the miscreant, pouncing on him like a cornered rat at his abode in Kiamunyi.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the detectives had no business turning the house upside down in search of evidence, as Kemboi was caught pants down with his tools of trade right on the table.
“His key asset – an Infinix Hot 10 Lite phone – used to fleece unsuspecting grade-seekers was confiscated, alongside several SIM cards, national IDs bearing different names and a driving license,” the Directorate of Criminal Investigations said.
Probing further, the detectives established that Kemboi is a graduate of a Kenyan university, holding a Bachelor of Arts in Human Resource Management.
Mr. Kemboi is also employed as a salesperson by an international company and has roots in the Kaseta area of Sacho in Baringo County.
Kemboi is currently at Nakuru Central Police Station, where he is reflecting on a difficult day at work while facing allegations of fraud and the unauthorized possession of examination materials.
He will be arraigned at Nakuru Law Courts.
