A 29-year-old man has been sentenced to 71-years for raping and sodomizing a 29 year old woman in Ndhiwa Sub-County, in Homabay County.

The sentence was delivered by Resident Magistrate Hon. B.W. Murangasia on Thursday after the court found him guilty of the assault on a woman, identified as R.A.O., in February 2024.

According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), George Odhiambo Jalang’o committed this heinous offence on the 25th February 2024, at Gaena Village in Lower Kayambo Location within Ndhiwa Sub County Homabay County.

The prosecution achieved a conviction following the testimony of six witnesses, which included a government chemist analyst and a clinical officer, who also presented evidence in the case.

“An expert from the Government chemist informed the court that a DNA analysis of the spermatozoa was collected from the complainant and the conclusion was that the samples matched the DNA of the accused person,” the ODPP noted.

“The evidence was further corroborated by a clinical officer who examined the complainant and noted that she had faecal stains in her private parts,” the ODPP added.

The court, in delivering the sentence, acknowledged the psychological effects and stigma the offense had imposed on the complainant, resulting in a sentence of 71 years of imprisonment to the man.
