The Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs stated that it continues to receive complaints from citizens who have been defrauded while applying for travel visas to various countries.

The Ministry advised that it is important for persons seeking to travel to different destinations to apply for the correct visas as outlined on the official websites of the respective countries.

Additionally, the Ministry added that the responsibility of visa application lies solely with the individual and does not necessitate the involvement of agents or organizations.

“Visa application is a personal responsibility that does not require the approval of agents or organisations,” read the statement in part from the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs.

The Ministry also emphasizes the importance of conducting thorough research before pursuing employment opportunities abroad.

“The Ministry cautions that it is an offence under immigration law to overstay the duration of a visa. If arrested, one can be liable to imprisonment or a fine as may be determined by the courts of the various jurisdictions. One can also be deported for violation of immigration laws,” warned the Ministry’s head of public communication.

The Ministry further encouraged individuals to utilize the services of the 67 Kenyan Missions worldwide, which are available to assist in verifying any job opportunities.
