Kenya and Qatar have reaffirmed their strong diplomatic and economic ties, with discussions centred on expanding job opportunities for Kenyan professionals and fostering business collaboration.

In a high-level meeting with H.E. Mohamed Al-Enazi, the Ambassador of Qatar to Kenya, Kenya’s Foreign Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, reiterated commitment to strengthening its partnership with Qatar in key sectors.

According to CS Mudavadi since 2024, Qatar has employed 7,000 Kenyan professionals, bringing the total Kenyan workforce in the Gulf nation to 75,000.

The meeting explored avenues for further expanding employment opportunities, particularly for Kenyan teachers, nurses, and security personnel.

Kenyan representatives urged the Qatari government to consider hiring Kiswahili teachers, recognizing the growing global interest in the language.

The discussions also focused on enhancing collaboration in media operations and capacity building.

Kenya emphasized the importance of deepening cooperation in these areas to foster knowledge exchange and mutual growth.

“I urged the Ambassador to expand these opportunities, including roles for Kiswahili teachers. Notably, Qatar recently recruited 200 Kenyans into its National Police Force, ranging from Form 4 leavers to university graduates. I also emphasized the need for collaboration in media operations and capacity building,” noted Mudavadi.

Additionally, Kenya extended an invitation to Qatari business leaders to participate in the World Chambers Congress, set to take place in Nairobi from April 9–11, 2025.

The event, will mark  a significant milestone in the 75-year history of the International Chamber of Commerce’s World Chambers Federation.

It will offer Qatari investors a unique opportunity to explore Kenya’s vibrant business landscape and investment potential.

Additionally, plans were discussed to shift the upcoming Kenya-Qatar Foreign Ministerial Meeting from Nairobi to Doha in November 2025, a strategic move aimed at bolstering diplomatic ties and streamlining bilateral relations.

Also present at the meeting was Ashakur Hussein, Deputy Director-General, Middle East Directorate at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kenya.

Kenya and Qatar continue to build on their longstanding relationship, with a shared vision of economic growth, cultural exchange, and enhanced employment opportunities for Kenyan professionals in Qatar.
