DPP Renson Ingonga Appears Before PAC to Defend 2022-2023 Expenditure, Emphasizes Accountability

The Director of Public Prosecutions Renson M. Ingonga appeared before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Tuesday 4th February 2025 to examine the Auditor General’s report for the financial year 2022-2023.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions indicated that the DPP addressed several inquiries posed by the committee regarding the office’s expenditures and praised them for exercising oversight to ensure the responsible utilization of public resources.

“The session marked an important step in strengthening accountability within public institutions and ensuring that taxpayer money is used effectively and efficiently,” the ODPP said in an X post.

“The examination of the report is a crucial aspect of the committee’s mandate to ensure transparency and accountability in the management of public funds.”

The Public Accounts Committee, formed following National Assembly Standing Order 205, reviews accounts regarding the allocation of funds approved by the House for public expenditure.

Additionally, it holds the authority to scrutinize any additional financial documents or reports that are considered pertinent to the maintenance of proper fiscal management.

The ODPP highlighted that the DPP’s appearance before the committee emphasizes the importance of collaboration between various arms of government in promoting fiscal responsibility and good governance.

The Public Accounts Committee which is chaired by Butere Member of Parliament, Hon. Tindi Mwale, plays a vital role in overseeing the financial operations of the government.

The DPP was accompanied by Ag. Secretary Public Prosecutions Alloys Kemo, Deputy Director Corporate Services Nkaduda Hiribae and Chief Finance Officer Jane Chege.
