Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Vihiga, working alongside the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau counterparts from the Western Region, apprehended Nelson Auko, 28, and Godfrey Muyeiya, 20, after receiving crucial leads from the public.
Acting swiftly on the intelligence, officers stormed the suspects’ hideout in Mbale town, where they discovered 14 stolen mobile phones, including four Tecno phones, two Neon Ray phones, five Itel phones, a Samsung, a Maxfone, and an Okings phone.
“Ambushing the suspects’ hideout in Mbale town, the detectives confiscated a treasure trove of 14 stolen mobile phones, which included four Tecno phones, two Neon Ray phones, five Itel phones, a Samsung, Maxfone and an Okings phone,” stated the detectives.
Some of these phones had been reported stolen as far back as January 2025.
Victims of the recent crime wave have positively identified some of the recovered devices, bringing relief to residents who had been living in fear of the gang’s activities.
Authorities have urged anyone who may have fallen victim to similar robberies to visit DCI Vihiga to help identify additional recovered items and assist in the ongoing investigations.

DCI continues to encourage the public to report criminal activities, reaffirming their commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all Kenyans.
