Juja Member of Parliament, George Koimbori, was arrested on Tuesday morning while on his way to parliament and subsequently taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters in Kiambu.
On Wednesday, he appeared before the Kiambu Law Courts and was charged with forging academic certificates and contempt of court.
He is alleged to have forged a Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) certificate between November and December 1994 to secure a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
He was also charged with forging a certificate of participation in the East African Universities Accession Project from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Technology (JKUAT) between September 2011 and April 2012.
Additionally, he is alleged to have forged a certificate from the School of Human Resource Development from JKUAT.
Ndegwa Njiru, his lawyer indicated that Koimburi was arrested for his remarks on the AUC elections.
The MP had previously asserted that the government spent Ksh.13 billion to support Raila Odinga’s campaign in the African Union Commission (AUC) elections.
His arrest, given his association with the impeached deputy president Rigathi Gachagua, has sparked questions on the political temperatures in Kenya.
The MP alleged that President William Ruto attempted to bribe African heads of state in return for Raila Odinga’s support in the AUC bid.
