Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen conducted his inaugural official visit to the DCI Headquarters on Thursday 27th February 2025.
This visit was part of a working and familiarization tour organized by the Inspector General of Police and the Director of DCI.
Following a series of presentations from various Heads of Departments within the Directorate, the Cabinet Secretary praised the National Police Service for its commitment to enhancing the professionalism of criminal investigations in the nation. He also recognized the crucial role played by the DCI in ensuring the safety and security of the Kenyan people.
“We might be having some few security challenges in some parts of the country, but I’m impressed by the team work displayed by all agencies within the National Police Service in ensuring our country is safer than ever before,” he added.
CS Murkomen expressed his contentment following a tour of several units within the National Forensic Laboratory. He commended the skills demonstrated by the NFL personnel, highlighting the laboratory’s importance as a vital and strategic asset in the region.
He further noted that it plays a crucial role in enhancing the use of science and innovation for crime detection and the apprehension of criminals.
“Through this laboratory, we will see to it that we leverage on technology to ensure the protection and safety of our people, and that’s why we will continue equipping the facility to realize its full operationalization,” he said.
The Cabinet Secretary also disclosed that the Ministry, in collaboration with the National Police Service Commission, was engaging with universities and colleges to provide ongoing training for new professionals, as well as to upgrade the National Criminal Investigations Academy to improve the capabilities of investigators.
In response, the Director of Criminal Investigations, Mr. Mohamed I. Amin, expressed gratitude to the CS for facilitating his visit to Mazingira Complex, noting that his attendance highlighted the government’s dedication to the collective objective of ensuring the safety and security of all citizens.
Accompanying the CS were the Inspector General of Police Mr Douglas Kanja, the Deputy Inspector General – KPS Mr Eliud Lagat and the Principal Deputy to DIG – APS Dr. Masoud Mwinyi among other senior NPS officers.
