The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in Isiolo County organized a three-day training session for paralegals and police officers to raise awareness about several ODPP policy documents.

This event was held at the ISIOLO GK Prison. Prosecution Counsel Michael Kamau, representing the ODPP, outlined various policies aimed at expediting the administration of justice.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions reported that Mr. Michael highlighted the significance, effectiveness, and functions of the ODPP’s plea bargaining and diversion policies in addressing the backlog of cases within the judicial system.

He further noted that the ODPP values cooperation, collaboration, and coordination with various stakeholders to enhance and support policing initiatives for the benefit of Kenyans.

Additionally, he mentioned that inadequate evidence and a lack of public interest are among the criteria that may lead to the rejection of certain cases at the decision to charge (DTC) stage.

Mr. Michael additionally stated that the forum serves as a platform for duty bearers to interact with the community, aiming to restore trust and improve the legitimacy of justice actors and the justice system.

The event, organized by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), focused on increasing awareness regarding the roles and responsibilities of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) and its associated policy documents.
