Detectives have arrested two individuals behind a fraudulent university scheme that was issuing degrees without accreditation.
The suspects, Moses Masiga, the Chancellor of North Western Christian University College, linked to Power International Ministries University Inc., and his Vice Chancellor, Jackson Khayamba, were apprehended following a complaint from the Commission for University Education (CUE).
Acting swiftly, a team of detectives raided Wild Waters Nyali, where they discovered a fake graduation ceremony in progress.
“In a swift response, a team of Detectives proceeded to Wild Waters Nyali. There, they stumbled upon a sham graduation ceremony in full swing, complete with unsuspecting “graduates” about to receive their bogus certificates. The event was promptly declared a crime scene and brought to an abrupt halt,” stated the DCI.
A search of the premises led to the recovery of dozens of counterfeit academic certificates, including:
- 7 honorary doctorate degrees
- 7 academic doctorate degrees
- 20 master’s degrees
- 65 bachelor’s degrees
- 14 diplomas
- 5 certificates
These fake qualifications were meant for individuals eager to celebrate their academic milestones, unaware that their degrees were invalid.
The suspects are currently in custody and undergoing processing.
They will be charged under Section 28 of the Universities Act, which prohibits offering degrees without accreditation from a recognized institution.
Additionally the authorities have urged the public to verify the accreditation status of institutions before enrolling.
