Body of Kenyan Police Officer Killed in Haiti Arrives at JKIA Days after his Death

The remains of a police officer who lost his life at the hands of a gang in Haiti have finally reached Kenya following several days of delays attributed to logistical challenges.

On Monday, March 10, Deputy Inspector General of the Administration Police Service, Gilbert Masengeli, along with other officers, received the body of Constable Samuel Tompoi Kaetuai at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

Constable Kaetuai was fatally injured during a confrontation with a gang in Port-au-Prince on February 23.

A member of a team engaged in the pursuit of a gang, as reported by the National Police Service, Kaetuai was tragically shot in the head and subsequently succumbed to his injuries.

In the previous week, Inspector General of the National Police Service, Douglas Kanja, along with State House Comptroller Hon. Katoo Ole Metito and other high-ranking officials, paid a visit to the family of the deceased, Kaetuai, to express their condolences at Naserian Village, located in Kajiado East Sub-County, Kajiado County.

Mr. Douglas Kanja honoured Tompoi, describing him as a hero and an ambassador who made the ultimate sacrifice in the pursuit of global peace.

He assured the bereaved family of the steadfast support from both the government and the police department during this challenging time.

The family of the late Samuel Kaetuai with a team from the National Police Service received the body of their son at the Airport where the father described the death as tragic and a big loss to his family at large.

The body of the late officer was moved to the Chiromo Mortuary, pending burial.
