A city pastor has been charged with rape and committing an indecent act with an adult in a case that has drawn significant public attention.

Peter Kimondo Baragu, also known as Prophet Peter of Christ Impact Church in Ruiru, appeared before Principal Magistrate Ruth Kefa at the Nakuru Law Courts on Monday.

The prosecution alleges that on the night of May 27, 2022, at around 9:00 pm in the White House area of Nakuru East Sub-County, Baragu unlawfully forced himself on a tuk-tuk driver without his consent.

Additionally, the court heard that the accused committed an indecent act by inappropriately touching the victim and forcibly removing his clothing against his will.

“The accused is also said to have committed an indecent act against the victim, a tuk-tuk driver, by inappropriately touching him and forcibly removing his clothing against his will,” noted the ODPP.

The prosecution, led by Counsel Daniel Wakasyaka, opposed the suspect’s bail application, citing concerns that he might interfere with witnesses.

Baragu pleaded not guilty to the charges. The court ordered that he remain in custody pending a bond and bail hearing scheduled for March 18, 2024.

Wakasyaka further told the court that the accused had been on the run since the matter was first reported in 2022, prompting the issuance of arrest warrants on March 1, 2025.
