Two Judiciary Staff at Mbita Law Courts Arrested for Bribery

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested two judiciary staff members at Mbita Law Courts for soliciting and receiving a bribe of KSh. 5,000 from a complainant.

The suspects, Jared Nyauncho, a Senior Court Assistant and David Tunya, a Customer Care Officer, were apprehended on March 26, 2025, following an operation by the EACC.

The arrests stemmed from a complaint received by EACC on March 24, 2025, alleging that Jared Nyauncho had demanded a bribe to facilitate the retrieval of a succession case file from the court registry.

The complainant, who had repeatedly attempted to access the file without success, reported the matter to EACC, prompting an immediate investigation.

“On 24th March 2025, EACC received a letter from a complainant alleging that a Senior Court Assistant based at Mbita Law Courts was demanding for bribe in order to retrieve a succession case file from the court registry. The complainant had, on numerous occasions, sought to trace the file at the Law Courts in vain,” stated the EACC.

During the operation, David Tunya was caught accepting the Ksh. 5,000 bribe on behalf of Nyauncho. Both suspects were taken into custody and escorted to Mbita Police Station for processing.

They were later released on a Kes. 20,000 cash bail each, pending further investigations.

EACC has reiterated its commitment to combating corruption, particularly in service delivery points, to restore public trust in government institutions.

The commission urges members of the public to report any cases of bribery and unethical conduct for prompt action.
