Kenyatta University Television and Radio Service (KUTV&RS) celebrated a huge milestone as the third cohort of its intensive practical training program graduated in a colourful event at the Kenyatta University Conference Centre (KUCC).
The training, which costs only Ksh 25,520, runs for a month followed by two months of practical work at the station. It targets aspiring media professionals who seek to gain hands-on skills in the media field.
The courses include, TV studio technical operations, audio-video editing, TV journalism and news anchoring, news reporting and anchoring, TV production, camera operations and off- and on-air motion graphics.
With opening remarks from Anyango Sylvia, a graduate from the 2nd cohort, praised the practical course, stating how it has built her career in media.
“The training is very comprehensive. Despite having a bachelor’s degree in education, I undertook this course and I am currently a news anchor and a show host,” stated Anyango Sylvia.
Hellen Adhiambo, one of the graduates, shared her experience, noting, “Even though I have a bachelor’s degree in Communication, I have never been to a studio or an editing room until this course exposed me to practical media.”
“I am currently doing production for the church I go to. It is through the skills I gained from this course that I can do a successful production,” stated Victoria Murungi, who is also a graduate.
Grace Gilo, the digital sales and marketing manager, who stood in for the Chief News Editor Caroline Kimwele, congratulated the graduates and encouraged them to promote the course to others as they are testimonies of its benefits.
Her sentiments were echoed by Livingstone Mwangi, Head of KU Radio, who termed the training as comprehensive and all-around.
Samuel Opeiwa, the head of audio-video editing and Hellen’s trainer, commended her dedication and discipline, stating, “Hellen is one of the best students I have had in the audio-video editing department.”
Joel Mulwa, head of KUTV studio technical operations, noted that the graduates leave with four essential skills: studio operations, camera operations, sound control, and lighting.
Boniface Otieno, the Technical Production and Acquisition Manager, emphasized the course’s effectiveness, saying, “It is already tested and proven. We welcome participants regardless of their background in media.”
KUTV&RS Director Mr. Machua Koinange commended the trainers and trainees for their good and hard work.
“The experience and skills we have impacted in you can be used anywhere,” noted the director.
The training takes place in a well-equipped, hands-on environment, ensuring one-on-one attention between students and trainers.
Congratulations to the third cohort!
