Kenya has reiterated its deep concern over the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Sudan and called for renewed international efforts toward a lasting political solution to the conflict.
This position was reinforced during high-level discussions between a Kenyan delegation and UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy on the sidelines of the London-Sudan Conference held at Lancaster House.
The meeting served as a platform for Kenya to express its unwavering commitment to peace and stability in the region, with particular focus on the ongoing crises in Sudan, South Sudan, Somalia and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
“I shared Kenya’s willingness to work closely with the UK and other partners to promote stability, support an inclusive peace process, and enhance humanitarian relief efforts,” stated Mudavadi.
The talks centered on deepening cooperation in the areas of peacebuilding, humanitarian response, and inclusive political processes.
Kenya underscored the need for a coordinated international approach to alleviate the humanitarian suffering in Sudan and support the millions affected by the conflict.
“We reaffirmed the growing Kenya–UK partnership and explored ways to deepen our socio-economic cooperation,” added Mudavadi.
The leaders also reviewed other pressing conflicts across the Horn of Africa and the Great Lakes region, noting the devastating human cost and the urgent need for comprehensive, African-led solutions.
Both parties reaffirmed their shared commitment to regional peace and security, with the UK expressing support for Kenya’s leadership in mediation and peace facilitation efforts.
The two countries agreed to explore avenues for expanding socio-economic cooperation, including trade, investment, education and climate resilience.
