The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has arraigned a Marketing Assistant at the Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company Limited over allegations of forging academic qualifications to secure employment.

Appearing before the Nairobi Anti-Corruption Court, Edwin Amagola Munyeti was charged with multiple offences, including forgery, deception, and fraudulent acquisition of public property.

According to the prosecution, Munyeti forged a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate bearing the name “Munyeti Edwin Amakola,” indicating a mean grade of C+, and presented it as an authentic document issued by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).

“Prosecuting counsel Thelma Nanjaya told the Nairobi Anti-Corruption Court that Edwin Amagola Munyeti forged a KCSE certificate showing a mean grade of C+ in the name of Munyeti Edwin Amakola, purporting it to be a genuine document issued by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC),” noted the ODPP.

The accused is alleged to have used the forged certificate to obtain employment at the Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company, from which he fraudulently earned a cumulative salary of Ksh. 9,080,267.

Munyeti faced additional charges for deceiving his employer by falsely claiming to possess the academic qualification in his personal record forms.

“Munyeti faced additional charges of deceiving his employer by claiming to hold a KCSE certificate with a mean grade of C+, information he allegedly included in his personal record forms submitted to the company, uttering a false document and presenting a forged certificate,” added the ODPP.

He was also charged with uttering a false document and knowingly presenting the forged KCSE certificate.

He pleaded not guilty to all charges and was released on a bond of Ksh.500,000.
