Hon Aden Duale attends the Regional Coordination Meeting of Health Ministers of the 47 Member states of the WHO – African Region, convened by Dr. Louise Mapleh Kpoto, the Minister of Health for Liberia, and Chair of the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Committee for Africa.
“The meeting established a unified African position for the 78th World Health Assembly. This position addressed several key areas, including health emergency preparedness and response, WHO governance reforms, the proposed Program Budget for 2026–2027 and matters considered by the 156th WHO Executive Board,” said Hon Aden Duale.
This meeting convened ministers of health and finance, senior policy-makers, and development partners to explore actionable, country-led strategies that strengthen health information systems and secure sustainable financing for health.
Health data and sustainable financing form the twin foundations of strong health systems. They are central to achieving universal health coverage and meeting the needs of women and girls.
Countries need reliable data to set priorities or track results. They need adequate financing to implement strategies and deliver outcomes.
Also present at the meeting were Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, the acting WHO Regional Director for Africa, Dr. Mohammed Yakub Janabi, the newly elected WHO Regional Director, Amb. Fancy Too, Permanent Representative of Kenya to the United Nations Office at Geneva and Dr. Patric Amoth, Director General Health.
