In a move aimed at fortifying Kenya’s justice system, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) and the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) have agreed to deepen institutional collaboration to improve the efficiency, transparency, and effectiveness of justice delivery across the country.
The high-level meeting, held at the DPP’s headquarters, brought together senior officials from both institutions.
The JSC delegation was led by Commissioner Jacqueline Ingutiah, who lauded the ODPP for its ongoing efforts in ensuring prosecutors are adequately deployed to courts nationwide a move she said has significantly contributed to enhancing public access to justice.
Discussions centered on operational alignment and reform strategies, with Commissioner Ingutiah highlighting key areas requiring urgent attention.
“The discussion, which brought together senior officials from both institutions, focused on practical measures to streamline operations, promote transparency, and ensure that the Kenyan public receives timely and fair access to justice,” stated ODPP.
Commissioner Ingutiah also emphasized the need for institutional support from the ODPP during JSC-led investigations into allegations of misconduct involving judicial officers or staff.
She requested the DPP’s assistance in availing prosecution counsel to provide evidence during disciplinary proceedings, noting that this cooperation is essential to safeguarding the integrity and accountability of the judiciary.
To ensure effective coordination, the meeting proposed the appointment of liaison officers from both institutions.
These officers would serve as dedicated communication bridges, enabling the rapid exchange of information, resolving procedural bottlenecks, and strengthening operational synergy between the ODPP and JSC.
The Director of Public Prosecutions affirmed his office’s commitment to working closely with the judiciary to uphold the rule of law and foster public trust in Kenya’s justice system.
