The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), working in conjunction with Police Officers from the Integrity Police Station, has arrested senior public officials from the County Government of Trans Nzoia for obstructing Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officers while executing a lawful court order.
This followed the May 19 2025, ordeal during which the EACC officers conducted a court-issued search operation at the residence of Trans Nzoia County Governor George Natembeya in Kitale.
“The operation was part of an investigation into procurement irregularities, abuse of office, bribery, and the fraudulent acquisition of 1.46 billion Kenyan shillings,” said EACC through X.
According to the EACC, the Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) and senior county officials incited the public, resulting in the obstruction of officers, assault on law enforcement, and vandalism of five government vehicles valued at 12.1 million Kenyan shillings.
“We will not tolerate obstruction of justice or destruction of public property in the execution of our lawful mandate,” continued EACC.
The DCI arrested twenty four suspects and charged them with various offences at Kitale Law Court. Bernard Muganda, former MCA for Motosiet Ward, John Chigi Makhanu, the MCA for Sinyerere Ward and Mr. Frank Kuyala Wabwire, the Governor’s Protocol Officer, were among those arrested. The three officials will be arraigned today at Kitale Law Courts.
Governor Natembeya was arraigned at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court, where he faced charges of conflict of interest and the unlawful acquisition of public property.
He denied the charges and was released on a bond of one million Kenyan shillings. He was further barred from accessing his office for sixty days.
