Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale declared the government’s support for Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), while cautioning against the uncontrolled growth of health-related training programmes.
Speaking during the 8th Biennial KMTC Scientific Conference in Nairobi, Duale emphasized the importance of maintaining high professional standards in health training.
“KMTC will not offer credentials without competence. We will not allow institutions to become part of the problem. All training programmes must be aligned to the evolving needs of public health in Kenya,” Duale stated.
The conference, themed Advancing Equity in a Rapidly Changing Environment, brought together stakeholders from academia, research and healthcare to share innovations that will advance Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
This marked Duale’s first official visit to KMTC since assuming office as Health Cabinet Secretary.
In a meeting with the Board and senior management, he called for accountability, transparency and integrity in training.
“KMTC must remain a centre of excellence focused on producing competent, service-ready professionals,” he noted.
He further urged the institution’s leadership to continuously review course offerings to align with national health goals and workforce needs.
During the visit, Duale flagged off five double-cabin vehicles to be distributed to KMTC campuses. The vehicles will support student access to clinical training, enhance supervision and improve community-based service delivery.
KMTC Board Chairperson Mr. Joseah Cheruiyot, CEO Dr. Kelly Oluoch and Director General for Health Dr. Patrick Amoth accompanied the CS during the event.
