The National Police Service (NPS) held a strategic meeting and mental wellness programme on 3 June 2025 at the Kisii University Amphitheatre to strengthen leadership and officer well-being.

The forum, convened by Kisii County Police Commander Mr. Ronald Kirui (CP) and County Criminal Investigations Officer Ms. Catherine Njue (CP), brought together key police leadership from across the county.

Participants included all Sub-County Police Commanders, eight Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officers, two Sub-County Administration Police Commanders, five Base Commanders and thirty-two Police Station Commanders.

Dr. Rose Otieno, a clinical psychologist and lecturer at Kisii University, led a mental wellness session.

“Mental resilience and emotional well-being are crucial for effective policing,” Dr. Otieno stated.

Principal Prosecution Counsel Ms. Victorine Kitoto, representing the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, discussed investigative standards.

“Inter-agency collaboration is key to justice delivery,” Kitoto noted.

The officers also assessed the progress of ongoing crackdowns on illicit brews and narcotics. They reviewed performance data and explored strategies to enhance enforcement efforts.

Other topics included criminal investigations, gender-based violence, execution of court orders and performance appraisals.

In his address, Mr. Kirui urged officers to lead with integrity and professionalism.

“Demonstrate strong leadership, command and control in your respective jurisdictions,” he said.

The forum aimed to improve leadership, promote mental wellness and align policing with the justice system’s expectations.
