The Kibera High Court has denied bond for three suspects linked to the murder of Hon. Charles Ong’ondo Were.
Justice Diana Mochache denied the suspects bond after one of the suspects threatened to kill a prosecutor who was handling the case.
According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), a court orderly testified that during a break, one of the suspects, Ebel Ochieng, alias Dave Calo, inquired about the identity of the prosecutor and threatened to kill him for opposing their request for bail.
“The court directed all the suspects, William Imoli Shigali, Edwin Odoury Odhiambo, and Ebel Ochieng, to be remanded at Nairobi Industrial Remand pending mental assessment,” stated the ODPP.
The prosecution team for this case included Senior Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions (SADPP) Gikui Gichuhi and Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions (ADPP) Allen Mulama.
In a separate case, two additional suspects appeared before the Milimani High Court, facing charges of murder under Section 204 of the Penal Code.
The prosecution team, led by Ms. Jacinta Nyamosi, Evelyne Onunga, Allen Mulama, and Millicent Kigira, made an application before Lady Justice Hon. Lady Justice M. Muigai to defer the plea pending a mental assessment of the suspect.
“The two suspects, Isaac Kuria, alias Kush, and Allan Omondi Ogola, will be held at Kamiti Prison pending mental assessment,” revealed the ODPP.
The case is scheduled for further mention on 18th June 2025.
“The court also directed that all the suspects be taken to Mathari Hospital for mental assessment,” ODPP added.
The suspects, jointly with others not before the court, are alleged to have murdered Hon. Were on the night of April 30, 2025, at around 7:40 p.m.
The incident reportedly took place at the City Mortuary Roundabout along Ngong Road in Kilimani Sub-County, Nairobi County.
