Following the escalating unrest in Los Angeles, California Governor Gavin Newsom, in a joint effort of the state and local partners, has mobilized over 800 additional law enforcement officers to support the ongoing efforts to restore order.
The move comes after US President Donald Trump’s alleged illegal federalization of the National Guard, which has fueled protests and heightened public tensions in Los Angeles( LA).
“Chaos is exactly what Trump wanted, now we are sending in hundreds more law enforcement to pick up the pieces. State and local leaders stand together, coordinated and resolute to ensure the safety of the Los Angeles region,” Governor Newsom said.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) has deployed more than 640 officers, including Special Response Teams and highway patrol staff, who will operate under a unified command with the Los Angeles Police Department to ensure public safety.
Additionally, more than 240 mutual-aid officers from surrounding counties and other municipal agencies in Los Angeles have joined the effort.
The state has also activated its State Operations Center, led by the California Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES), to ensure swift and coordinated response across regions.
Emphasizing on peaceful protest, LA County District Attorney, Nathan Hotchman asserted than destruction of property, and assault to law officers will warrant prosecution to the law’s fullest extent.
Mayor Karen Bass said, “There is a strong local mutual aid agreement here in California and it has already been activated according to policy. To our local law enforcement partners: thank you for having our back just as we have yours.”
The mobilization highlights California’s determination to maintain peace and uphold the rule of law amid a politically charged atmosphere.
