The National Police Service (NPS) has intensified its efforts in the fight against drug trafficking and abuse, following the arrest of a suspect in Mombasa County during a targeted anti-narcotics operation.
In a joint effort by officers from Kongowea Police Station and National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs), a multi-agency team conducted a sting operation in the Makaburini area, a known hotspot for illicit drug activity.
The operation led to the arrest of one suspect who was found in possession of multiple items believed to be linked to drug distribution.
Recovered at the scene were at least 80 rolls of a substance suspected to be cannabis sativa among other items.
“One suspect was arrested after being found in possession of several items, including at least 80 rolls of a substance suspected to be cannabis sativa, two kitchen knives, and 10 gas lighters, among other items,” the NPS noted.
Authorities noted that the seized items are being processed for forensic analysis, and the suspect remains in custody pending further investigation and prosecution.
This operation is part of a broader national campaign spearheaded by the government to rid communities of harmful narcotics and safeguard the health and wellbeing of Kenyan citizens.
The National Police Service reiterated its commitment to working closely with other government agencies and the public in combating drug-related crime.
The service also reaffirmed its dedication to building a drug-free society.
