Homa Bay County has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening food security and sustainable agriculture through deepened collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Kenya.
During a high-level courtesy meeting held with a delegation from FAO Kenya led by Assistant Country Representative Mr. Hamisi Williams, county officials outlined key strategic areas for joint action.
These include enhancing agricultural extension services, bolstering priority value chains, driving research and innovation, and promoting sustainability within the blue economy, fisheries, and climate-smart agriculture.
Governor Gladys Wanga welcomed the FAO team, emphasizing the importance of aligning development efforts with the county’s long-term goals.
“This partnership is instrumental in empowering our communities, increasing agricultural productivity, and building climate resilience,” she said.
The meeting highlighted shared priorities aimed at unlocking the full potential of local agriculture and marine sectors, with a strong focus on environmental sustainability and economic inclusivity.
FAO’s support is expected to accelerate ongoing programs that contribute to rural livelihoods, nutritional improvement, and youth engagement in agribusiness.
Both parties expressed optimism that the strengthened collaboration will deliver a lasting impact for the people of Homa Bay and beyond.
