The Government has launched a transformative housing initiative in Ol Kalou under the Affordable Housing Programme (AHP), aligned with the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
Phase one of the Ol Kalou Affordable Housing Project began in January 2024 on a 13-acre parcel. It consists of five residential blocks comprising 180 units: one block of 20 studio apartments, two blocks of 40 one-bedroom units, and two blocks of 40 two-bedroom units.
The development includes 38 parking spaces, landscaped gardens, a children’s play area, solar-lit pedestrian pathways, secure access points, and reliable maintenance and water services—features aimed at providing comfort, security, and sustainability.
The housing project is a timely response to the growing demand for decent, affordable housing in Ol Kalou, a town rapidly expanding due to increased economic activity and urban migration.
“The development also includes 38 parking slots, a children’s play area, landscaped gardens, solar-lit paved pedestrian pathways, controlled access points and essential maintenance and water supply services, all tailored to enhance comfort, safety and sustainability for future homeowners,” noted PS Omollo.
According to Principal Secretary, State Department for Internal Security and National Administration Raymond Omollo, the housing project will create job opportunities and enhance business expansions in the region.
“The project is also a catalyst for job creation, particularly benefiting local youth and women. From construction to landscaping and maintenance services, the project has unlocked numerous employment opportunities, equipping residents with skills and income while stimulating local businesses,” stated PS Omollo.
Upon full implementation, the project is set to deliver a total of 2,500 housing units, positioning Ol Kalou as a model for integrated housing development that fosters social transformation, urban regeneration and inclusive economic growth.
