The National Police Service (NPS) has successfully recovered stolen livestock following a cross-border raid in Turkana, reaffirming its commitment to regional security and swift law enforcement action.

According to NPS, Ugandan authorities raised an alert after suspected Turkana youths reportedly crossed into Uganda and drove off with cattle, attempting to flee back into Kenya.

The cross-border theft sparked immediate concern from both countries due to its potential to heighten tensions and destabilize local communities along the border.

Responding swiftly to the incident, NPS officers were mobilized to pursue the suspects and block possible escape routes.

Acting on intelligence, the security team intercepted the group near the border.

A brief exchange of gunfire followed, forcing the raiders to abandon the stolen livestock and flee into the surrounding terrain.

“Despite the confrontation, the security teams managed to recover all the stolen animals. No injuries were reported among officers involved in the operation,” stated the NPS.

In a statement released after the operation, the NPS reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on cross-border criminal activity and urged members of the public to refrain from engaging in acts that endanger peace and security.

The Service emphasized that livestock theft, especially across international borders, is a serious offense that undermines community stability and regional relations.

The successful recovery operation highlights the National Police Service’s dedication to protecting lives and property, fostering cross-border cooperation, and maintaining order in volatile regions such as Turkana.

Investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend the individuals behind the raid.
