Kenya -India Deepen Trade Ties Ahead of 10th Joint Trade Committee Meeting

The Deputy High Commissioner of India to Kenya, Mr. Sushi Prasad, today paid a courtesy call on the Principal Secretary for Trade, Ms. Regina Ombam, to discuss strengthening bilateral trade and economic cooperation between the two nations.

The talks, held at the State Department for Trade offices in Nairobi, focused on enhancing collaboration across key sectors including agriculture, finance, manufacturing, technology, education, and healthcare.

Mr. Prasad acknowledged the robust presence of Indian businesses in Kenya, describing them as a testament to the longstanding and mutually beneficial economic relationship shared by the two countries.

He expressed India’s readiness to deepen this partnership by exploring new areas of mutual interest and supporting Kenya’s development agenda.

Principal Secretary Ombam welcomed the visit and underscored Kenya’s commitment to strengthening its trade and investment ties with India.

She emphasized the government’s unwavering support for creating a favourable business environment that attracts Indian and other foreign investors to catalyse economic growth and generate employment for young people.

“She reiterated the State Department’s commitment in creating a conducive business environment for India investors and foreign investors to spur economic growth and create jobs especially for the youth in line with the government’s Bottom Up Economic Transformation Agenda,” reiterated the ministry.

The meeting also reviewed ongoing preparations for the upcoming 10th session of the Kenya-India Joint Trade Committee (JTC), which is scheduled to take place from August 7th to 8th, 2025, in Nairobi.

The JTC will provide a strategic platform for dialogue and cooperation, aiming to advance trade relations and unlock new economic opportunities for both countries.
