Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale has officially launched new Eye and Physiotherapy Units at Mokowe Sub-County Hospital in Lamu County, marking a significant milestone in expanding access to specialized healthcare services in remote and underserved regions.
The units are part of broader efforts under the government’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda and the Social Health Authority (SHA) reforms.
These developments are expected to ease the burden of long-distance travel for patients seeking eye care and rehabilitation services, and improve overall healthcare delivery in Lamu and its environs.
While addressing residents and health stakeholders at the launch event, CS Duale emphasized the government’s commitment to ethical and affordable service delivery.
He noted that the newly introduced SHA framework is central to making specialized care accessible across the country.
The CS also issued a firm warning to healthcare providers engaging in unethical practices, especially in relation to the misuse of pre-authorization codes used in health insurance claims.
“Over 1,000 rogue facilities have already been shut down. We will not allow unscrupulous individuals to exploit the system,” he declared.
Duale called on local communities to support the ongoing health reforms and shun divisive politics that may derail progress.
The event brought together national and county leaders, including top officials from the SHA and Digital Health Authority (DHA), signifying a united front in healthcare transformation.
