Kagawa propels Dortmund to 3-0 win in German Cup

The Japan international and former Manchester United player, Shinji Kagawa, scored twice as Borussia Dortmund progressed from the first round of the German Cup with a comfortable 3-0 win at fourth-tier Eintracht Trier on Monday.

Kagawa was in the right place at the right time to open the scoring in the 8th minute, and then again in the 33rd. Andre Schuerrle made it 3-0 before the break, thanks to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s second assist.

Aubameyang struck the post twice, one was earlier after lifting the ball over Trier ‘keeper Chris Keilmann and second as he struck the crossbar with a header in the second half.

Elsewhere on Monday, Alen Halilovic marked his Hamburg debut with the winning goal in Zwickau. The 20-year-old summer recruit from Barcelona sprang from the bench for the final half an hour and made a telling contribution with a fine finish in the 70th minute.

Salif Sane secured a late victory for second-division Hannover at fourth-tier Kickers Offenbach, converting a penalty in stoppage time after extra time for a 3-2 win.

Stefano Maier conceded the spot kick in the final minute for a foul on Hannover’s Felix Klaus as both sides finished with 10 men. Meanwhile, Sandhausen came from behind to beat third-tier Paderborn 2-1.

The draw for the second round, where sides from below the top two divisions will automatically enjoy home advantage, will take place on Friday evening.
