A man masquerading as a police officer has been apprehended by detectives in Kirinyaga East Sub-County, following a tip-off from vigilant members of the public.

The suspect, identified as Newton Wachira Waweru, was arrested after intelligence reports linked him to suspicious activities in the area.

“Detectives in Kirinyaga East Sub-County have apprehended a man posing as a police officer, recovering several government stores in the process,” noted the DCI.

Upon interrogation, Waweru led detectives to his residence in Makongeni, Thika, where a search revealed an alarming collection of government-issued security gear.

“A search of his premises yielded a trove of government stores including two police smoke jackets, two jungle green trousers, a green prison lanyard, desert military boots, and a replica firearm, among other items,” the DCI stated.

The suspect was taken into custody alongside the recovered paraphernalia and is currently being processed as detectives prepare to present him in court.

Authorities have since launched a comprehensive investigation to determine the extent of the impersonation, including whether Waweru may have used the police attire and fake weapon to commit other crimes while posing as a legitimate officer of the law.
