Kenya Deepens EU Relations, Bids Farewell to Departing Ambassadors

Kenya’s longstanding partnership with the European Union continues to flourish across key sectors, including trade and investment, as well as climate mitigation, among others.

According to President William Ruto, the ties were further strengthened with the signing of the EU-Kenya Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), which took effect on July 1, 2024.

The agreement granted Kenyan businesses duty-free and quota-free access to the vast European market of over 450 million consumers, marking a transformative milestone in Kenya’s economic diplomacy and trade expansion.

“Relations between Kenya and the European Union have grown from strength to strength, including in trade and investment, climate mitigation, peace and security, education and agriculture, among others,” stated President Ruto.

“Our relationship became stronger with the signing of the Economic Partnership Agreement that came into force on July 1, 2024, giving Kenyan businesses duty-free and quota-free access to the 450 million market,” added the President.

As part of ongoing diplomatic engagements, Kenya this week bid farewell to four distinguished European ambassadors who have completed their tours of duty:

  • E. Pirkka Tapiola (Ambassador of Finland)
  • E. Katarína Žuffa Leligdonová (Ambassador of Slovakia)
  • E. Christina Diaz (Ambassador of Spain)
  • E. Caroline Vicini (Ambassador of Sweden)

The government extended its appreciation to the departing envoys for their dedication and contributions in advancing bilateral relations and fostering cooperation between Kenya and their respective countries.

As the ambassadors prepare for their next responsibilities, Kenya wishes them every success and looks forward to continued collaboration with their successors.
