Siaya County has marked a significant milestone in its journey towards economic empowerment and food security with the official launch of three pivotal livestock investment projects, totalling Kenya Shillings 46 million.
The initiatives, undertaken in a strategic partnership between the Siaya County Government and the National Government under the Kenya Livestock Commercialization Project (KeLCoP), were unveiled during a ceremony attended by Hon. Jonathan Mueke, Principal Secretary for the State Department for Livestock Development.
As highlighted by Governor James Orengo on his official social media account, the commissioned projects include the Arongo Water Pan in West Uyoma Ward, the Bondo Slaughterhouse & Solar-Powered Borehole in North Sakwa Ward, and the Ng’iya Livestock Market in South East Alego Ward.
Governor Orengo announced the launch, directly attributing the progress to the collaborative efforts.
“This morning, Siaya County was honoured to host Hon. Jonathan Mueke, Principal Secretary for the State Department for Livestock Development, as we launched a series of transformative projects aimed at improving the livelihoods of our people,” Governor Orengo stated on his post.
He further emphasized the core mission driving these developments, stating on his official X account:
“In collaboration with the National Government, our shared mission is to empower every resident of Siaya by ensuring basic needs are accessible and sustainable across the county,” the governor stated, providing a direct view of the county’s commitment to its residents, highlighting the practical benefits of these projects.
Principal Secretary Mueke, addressing attendees at the launch, echoed the sentiment of shared progress.
“These initiatives mark a major step forward in strengthening livestock value chains, enhancing water access for farmers and animals, improving market infrastructure and incomes for livestock farmers,” he affirmed.
The combined effort, as highlighted by Governor Orengo’s social media outreach, signifies a tangible move towards a more prosperous and self-sufficient Siaya.
“Together, we’re building a more food-secure, economically empowered Siaya!” Orengo declared.
