The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested Samuel Kariuki Ngaanga, the Bomet County Director of the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), for allegedly soliciting and receiving a bribe of Ksh 25,000.
The arrest, which took place on 23rd July 2025 in Bomet Town, followed swift investigations after the Commission received a complaint on 22nd July 2025.
According to the report, the suspect had demanded the bribe from a business owner operating a lodging facility in Mulot Township.
The bribe was purportedly meant to allow the facility to continue operations without the mandatory Effluent Discharge License and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) certification.
“The bribe was reportedly demanded to allow the complainant to continue operating a lodging facility located in Mulot Township without the required Effluent Discharge License and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA),” explained the commission.
EACC officers apprehended Mr. Ngaanga while he was allegedly receiving the bribe.
“The Commission on 22nd July 2025 received a report of the bribery allegations, and upon preliminary investigations, an operation was conducted that led to the arrest of the suspect within Bomet town while receiving Kes25,000.00 from the complainant,” stated the EACC.
He was immediately escorted to Bomet Police Station, where he underwent standard arrest procedures, including interviewing, statement recording and processing.
However, the suspect was later released on a Ksh 30,000 cash bail as investigations continue.
He faces charges related to the solicitation and receipt of a bribe under the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act.
The EACC reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to combati corruption at service delivery points, noting that such acts undermine public trust and deny citizens fair and efficient access to government services.
