The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Renson Ingonga, CBS, OGW, hosted Moroccan Ambassador Abderrazzak Laassel in a meeting focused on strengthening legal and prosecutorial ties between Kenya and Morocco.

Held at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) headquarters, the meeting followed up on the partnership established in 2023 through a Memorandum of Understanding signed between Kenya’s ODPP and Morocco’s King’s Public Prosecutor’s Office.

The agreement has since laid the foundation for collaboration in justice sector reforms, capacity building and the joint fight against transnational organized crime.

During the visit, the two offices reviewed the progress made so far and looked at new areas where they could deepen their cooperation.

Discussions touched on key areas such as counterterrorism, cybercrime, anti-corruption, and financial crimes. Both parties also committed to strengthening cooperation in investigations, prosecutions, and ongoing professional development for prosecutors.

“The Kenya-Morocco partnership continues to be instrumental in advancing shared goals within the justice sector, especially in addressing complex transnational and organized crimes,” said DPP Ingonga.

He added that the partnership aligns with the ODPP’s current strategic focus, particularly on improving capacity in counterterrorism cases and the integration of Islamic and customary law into Kenya’s criminal justice system.

He also pointed to Morocco’s advanced digital forensic capabilities as a key area where Kenya could learn and benefit.

“Both nations could continue sharing experiences and strategies in tackling corruption and economic crimes,” he added.

Ambassador Laassel applauded DPP Ingonga for his leadership, saying, “The partnership with Kenya is one of mutual benefit.”

He reaffirmed Morocco’s commitment to continued cooperation through technical support, joint training programs and the exchange of knowledge to improve justice systems in both countries.
