Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetang’ula, has reaffirmed the Parliament of Kenya’s commitment to strengthening global ties following high-level discussions with Argentina’s Ambassador to Kenya, H.E. Luis Alejandro Levit.
During their meeting at the Parliament Buildings, Speaker Wetang’ula welcomed Ambassador Levit and praised Argentina’s dedication to enhancing parliamentary relations with Kenya.
He highlighted that, despite their geographical distance, the two countries share a mutual interest in promoting economic growth, democratic governance, and people-to-people exchanges.
“Kenya and Argentina enjoy cordial relations, with great potential to deepen and expand parliamentary cooperation as we build on existing bilateral engagements aimed at advancing growth in areas such as agriculture, education, sports, and technology,” said Speaker Wetang’ula.
“As Parliament, we welcome closer ties with your country, particularly through inter-parliamentary engagement,” he added.
The Speaker emphasized the importance of parliamentary diplomacy as a complement to traditional foreign policy and proposed the establishment of a Kenya-Argentina Parliamentary Friendship Group to facilitate regular dialogue between legislators from both nations.
On his part, Ambassador Levit expressed Argentina’s desire to deepen cooperation with Kenya, noting his government’s interest in sharing expertise in agricultural technology, food security and sports development areas where Argentina has globally recognized strengths.
“Argentina sees Kenya as a strategic partner in Africa. We believe in building bridges through parliamentary exchanges, educational partnerships, and trade collaboration,” said Ambassador Levit.
The ambassador also invited Kenyan MPs to explore areas of legislative collaboration with their Argentine counterparts, including study visits and exchange programs.
Speaker Wetang’ula assured the ambassador of Parliament’s support in promoting these initiatives and encouraged Argentine investors to explore opportunities in Kenya’s expanding economy, particularly in nuclear development, which was initiated during his tenure as foreign affairs minister.
