Isiolo MP Raises Alarm Over Escalating Insecurity

By Selian Mbari

Isiolo County Member of Parliament, Hon. Mumina Bonaya, has raised an alarm over the state of insecurity in Isiolo Town, stating that the situation will lead to chaos in Isiolo.

The County MP spoke about the issue in the National Assembly and sought a Statement from the Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Administration and Internal Security pursuant to Standing Order 44 (2)(c)

Hon. Mumina Bonaya warned that with the streets flooded with seemingly unregistered firearms, Isiolo Town was on the brink of descending into chaos, attributing the worsening security situation to political tensions in the country.

“Residents are living under constant fear as armed individuals roam the streets with growing impunity.” The legislator stated.

Additionally, she pointed out that the recent attempt to impeach the Governor of Isiolo in late June 2025 was the spark behind the deepened divisions within the county government. This, she noted, had emboldened armed groups, leading to more brazen and violent crimes.

Citing the August 7, 2025attack in which the Secretary General of the Somali Council of Elders, Mr. Idle Hassan Ibrahim, was shot and seriously injured, Hon. Bonaya described the incident as a targeted act meant to intimidate and undermine public confidence in security agencies.

Hon. Bonaya sought answers on, among other things, the immediate measures on the disarmament of individuals in Isiolo Town who are in possession of illegal firearms.

She further called on the Committee on Administration and Internal Security to outline specific measures being taken by the Government to curb the surge in insecurity and demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the attack on Mr. Ibrahim.
