Tragic Accident Claims Life of Kenyan Police Officer in Haiti, Others Injured

The National Police Service (NPS) has confirmed the death of a Kenyan police officer serving in the Kenyan-led Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) in Haiti.

In a statement, NPS Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga, the unfortunate incident occurred on Sunday, 31st August 2025, at approximately 1700 hours Haitian time (Monday, 1st September 2025, at 0200 hours Kenyan time), MSS officers were involved in a tragic road traffic accident on the Kenscoff-Pétion-Ville Road in the Pèlerin 9 area.

The incident occurred during a recovery operation involving two MaxxPro vehicles.

Reports indicate that the mishap led to the tragic death of the officer, along with two civilians. Additionally, eight other MSS officers sustained injuries, with three of them reported to be in serious condition and currently receiving medical treatment in hospital facilities.

“The next of kin have been notified,” said Muchiri.

“The National Police Service (NPS) extends its deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and relatives of the fallen officer and assures them of our unwavering support during this time of profound sorrow,” the Service condoled.

The MSS, in collaboration with the Haitian National Police (HNP), is in the process of making arrangements to repatriate the officer’s body to Kenya, while ensuring that the injured personnel continue to receive the best medical care possible.

“As a service, we remain committed to establishing lasting peace and security for the people of Haiti,” NPS reiterated.
