President Ruto Mourns Raila Odinga as a Visionary Leader

President William Ruto has led the country in mourning the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, describing him as a visionary leader, a patriot and a reformer whose courage and conviction profoundly shaped Kenya’s democratic journey.

In his condolences, the President said the nation was blessed to have been guided by Raila Odinga’s leadership, wisdom and unwavering belief in the promise of Kenya.

“Hon Odinga is no longer with us, but he has left us stronger and better. We take comfort in the knowledge that he has gone to a better place, a place where rest awaits him. His legacy in Kenya, Africa and on the world stage – as a patriot, a pan-Africanist, and a global statesman is written in the sands of time,” President Ruto said.

“We are blessed to live in a country that has been shaped by the will, the leadership, and the vision of the Right Hon Raila Odinga,”added the President..

He hailed Raila as a statesman who devoted his life to the pursuit of democracy, justice, and inclusivity, noting that his sacrifices laid the foundation for Kenya’s new constitutional order.

“With an unshakable faith in the values of our country and the character of our people, Hon Raila Odinga fought for our democracy and led the path towards our new constitutional order,” he added.

The President described Raila as a peacemaker who always prioritised the country.

He further described Raila as a quintessential progressive and reformer who fought tirelessly for human rights, the rule of law, and equal opportunity for all.

Offering condolences to the family, President Ruto assured them of his family’s support.

“From my immediate family, Rachel and the children, we want to assure Mama Ida, Rosemary, Raila Junior, Winnie, Senator Oburu and the entire Odinga family that we stand with them in this moment of grief.,” he said.

The President called on Kenyans to unite in celebrating Raila Odinga’s towering legacy as a patriot, pan-Africanist, and global statesman.
