The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has arraigned six Iranian nationals accused of trafficking narcotic drugs valued at approximately Sh8 billion.

According to the ODPP, the accused were arraigned before Shanzu Law Courts.

“The six, Jasem Darzadeh Nia, Nadeem Jadgal, Imran Baloch, Hassan Baloch, Rahim Baksh, and Imtiyaz Daryayi, were today arraigned before the Shanzu Law Courts,” noted the ODPP.

“The suspects were arrested on 24th October 2025 at Kilindini Port, following a multi-agency operation that led to the seizure of 769 packages of crystalline substances suspected to be synthetic narcotic drugs, weighing 1,035.986 kilograms,” added the ODPP.

The operation was triggered by intelligence shared by the Kenya Navy on a suspicious “dark vessel” operating in the Indian Ocean without proper identification.

During the court session, the prosecution requested more time to verify the credentials of the court interpreter and sought the appointment of an independent interpreter to guarantee fair proceedings for the foreign suspects.

The DPP further is expected to apply for a 30-day detention period to allow investigators to conclude their inquiries into the alleged offences, which fall under Section 4(a)(ii) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act, 1994.

The magistrate directed that the six suspects remain in custody at the Port Police Station pending further directions on Tuesday, 28th October 2025.
