The Ministry for Water, Sanitation and Irrigation has set the strategic agenda, during a high level meeting at Maji House, for the year ahead and reinforced a shared commitment to coordinated delivery across the sectors.
The meeting, chaired by the Cabinet Secretary, brought together the Principal Secretary, State Department for Water and Sanitation, Julius Korir, the Principal Secretary, State Department for Irrigation, Ephantus Kimotho, Chief Executive Officers of all Water and Irrigation agencies, and senior officials from the Ministry.
Participants reaffirmed a shared commitment to coordinated implementation across the water and irrigation sectors in line with the national government’s development agenda.
Speaking during the meeting, Cabinet Secretary for Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Eric Mugaa Ministry underscored the ministry role in ensuring equitable access to clean and safe water.
“In line with the national government’s development agenda, our top priority remains ensuring equitable access to clean and safe water for all Kenyans, while strengthening sanitation services and improving sector efficiency,” stated CSMugaa.
The meeting also emphasized the need to enhance governance, accelerate the implementation of ongoing and planned projects, and deepen collaboration between national and county governments.
“We reaffirmed our resolve to enhance governance, accelerate project implementation and deepen collaboration across national and county governments to deliver sustainable water solutions that transform lives,” added the CS.
On food security, the government reiterated its firm commitment to expanding irrigation.
Through flagship national projects and community-based irrigation schemes, the Ministry is working to significantly increase the acreage under irrigation, boost agricultural productivity, support livelihoods, and drive inclusive growth.
