National Olympics Committee of Kenya (NOCK) Committee tasked to manage athletics in Kenya has been disbanded by Sports Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario.
The committee was accused of mismanagement of players at Rio De Jairo Olympics, Team Kenya, during the recently concluded Rio Olympic Games.
Wario said that problem of missing kits and disgraceful sideshows diminished the spirits of the athletes in Rio.
“NOCK officials assured that kits and accommodation were in place. Enough is enough, we cannot keep implementing the Sports Act with the perennial problem pulling us back. It not only violates the Sports Act but also the Olympics Charter,” Wario said.
NOCK’s responsibility has been transferred to Sports Kenya in the interim with a probe committee report to be out by September, 30.
The official sponsor of Team Kenya Kits, Addidas, had earlier claiming that the kits were being mismanaged at Rio, This was followed by the call from the vice president to have the ‘elephant in the house’ scrutinized to make sure that Team Kenya would experience such again.
Two officials Kenya officials were also sent back to Kenya from Rio accused of corruption and impersonation.
