U.S. President Barack Obama urged for the full implementation of sanctions against North Korea after its latest missile test but said that Washington has no interest in taking an offensive approach towards Pyongyang.
Speaking after a meeting with the President of South Korea, Park Geun-hye, Mr Obama said the US would work with its allies to toughen sanctions against the North, describing the launches as “provocations”.
“We are going to work together to make sure we’re closing loopholes and make them even more effective,” Barrack Obama said.
“If it is willing to recognise its international obligations and enforce the denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula, the opportunities for us to dialogue with them are there.
“We do not have any interest in an offensive approach to North Korea.”
Mr Park said the latest launches, and others, were threatening the security of the Korean Peninsula.
Both presidents said they would continue to urge China to intervene.
