Through an official statement, the Media Council of Kenya has strongly condemned yesterday’s incident when Dhulkifli Rogo attacked Reuters journalist.
” The Media Council of Kenya strongly condemns the harassment of a Reuters journalist,
Joseph Okanga, who was on official duty at a Mombasa Court,” said MCK through Chief
Executive Officer and Secretary to the Council, Haron Mwangi. Mr. Okanga’s camera was allegedly destroyed Dhulkifli Rogo.

MCK urged the Director of Public Prosecution and the National Police Service to investigate, arrest and charge the one behind this cowardly act.
“We urge the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution and the National Police Service to investigate, arrest and charge the one behind this cowardly act,” read part of the statement.
“For democracy to prevail, journalists should never be intimidated or harassed in their line of duty. Such acts undermine freedom of the media and democracy,” the statement read.
MCK had also warned the journalists not to take side in politics threatening to withdraw accreditation of any practitioner journalist who would be found supporting given politician, and also warned them to be responsible of their social media posts.
