Balotelli sends Nice on top

A superb Mario Balotelli strike four minutes from time gave Nice a 2-1 win over Lorient on Sunday that left them top of the Ligue 1 table going into the international break.

Super Mario Balotelli scored the late winner before being sent off as Nice maintained their lead at the top of Ligue 1  against Lorient.

Ricardo Pereira had handed the hosts a first-half lead with his first goal for the club but Benjamin Moukandjo struck just after the hour mark to level things up.

Beaten 5-2 in Russia by Krasnodar in the Europa League on Thursday, this result got Nice back on track and maintained their impressive unbeaten record domestically so far.

After eight games, they sit a point clear of local rivals Monaco, who beat Metz 7-0 away on Saturday to record their biggest ever away win in France’s top flight.

Nice leads Monaco and PSG who comes second and third respectively with one clear point ahead of As Monaco and four clean points ahead of PSG.
